Pedestrian killed in Monday morning accident
Alonza C. Raway, 76, of Hampton was struck and killed Monday morning after being hit by a 1994 Honda Civic being driven on Highway 50, east of Hampton, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
The woman had been crossing the street outside her Hampton home, possibly after going to her mailbox, said Lt. Eric Roeske, information officer with the Minnesota State Patrol.
Roeske said it was dark outside when the driver, Mark A. Coulter, 56 of Hastings, was traveling westbound on Highway 50, and struck her at around 6:30 a.m.. Coulter was not injured in the accident, and although an ambulance was called, Raway was not transported in it.
“Obviously, (Coulter) is very shaken up by what occurred,” Roeske said.
The State Patrol and Dakota County Sheriff’s Department responded to the call, and emergency vehicles closed Highway 50 in both directions near the accident scene. The road was opened again at 9:22 a.m., said Roeske.
