Lakeville man injured in plane crash in Redwood County

A Lakeville man was injured Thursday morning when his airplane crashed in Redwood County, according to media reports.

Gary Debaun, 63, received minor injuries when his small Pitts Special SPS 1 plane crashed on Highway 14 and Garden Avenue in Lamberton Township, the Redwood County Sheriff’s Office told the West Central Tribune in Willmar.

The plane experienced mechanical problems, but Debaun managed to land the plane on Highway 14. Nevertheless, Debaun lost control following the landing. The plane then entered a ditch, collided with several trees and then rolled over, according to reports.

Debaun was the sole passenger of the plane. The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
