A Farmington man’s alleged frantic pursuit of alcohol has landed him in jail on charges of assaulting a police officer and criminal sexual conduct.
Prosecutors say in a Dakota County criminal complaint that Nathan Alancain Halverson, 24, was drunk Jan. 9 when he began pounding on neighboring doors at the Farmington motel where he was staying and asking for alcohol.
Farmington police said they had earlier tested Halverson’s blood alcohol level at .13, almost twice the legal limit, when they had investigated reports of a fight Halverson had with his girlfriend.
Responding the second time, Farmington police said they found Halverson in a neighboring room standing behind the room’s front door, blocking their entrance with his foot.
Halverson was arrested but the complaint said he twisted his body and locked his legs in an attempt to escape, repeatedly threatening to hunt down and kill the officer.
On the way to the squad car, Halverson allegedly continued threatening to kill the officer and tried to kick him.
The complaint said it took two officers to get Halverson to the squad, and they put his back to the car as they waited for further assistance.
But Halverson apparently continued to struggle. The report says he kicked one of the officers in the shin, his actions scratching and denting the squad car.
Once Halverson was secured in the back seat, the complaint says a woman came out and reported Halverson had earlier knocked on her door seeking alcohol and a place to sleep.
When she refused, police say he grabbed her, kissed her repeatedly and began grabbing her breasts.
Halverson is charged with felony fourth-degree assault, which carries penalties of up to three years in jail and fines from $1,500 to $6,000.
He could also receive up to a year in jail and a $900 to $3,000 fine for a gross misdemeanor criminal sexual conduct charge.
