South baseball hands Burnsville its first loss
The Lakeville South baseball team was looking for something to cheer for this season after starting out with a 2-7 record.
The players found plenty of smiles after beating Burnsville 9-8 at home on Monday night.
The Cougars weren’t the favored team on Monday against a 10-0 Burnsville team ranked No. 1 in the state since the season began.
After scoring six runs in the fifth inning, the Cougars held one of its largest leads over any team this season. The Blaze made it interesting tying the game in the seventh inning with four runs, but the home team Cougars answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh to secure the victory.
With an 8-1 conference record, the Blaze still hold a one-game lead in the South Suburban Conference after Lakeville North (7-2) defeated Eastview (7-2) across town 6-5 on Monday.
Lakeville South will head to Eagan on Wednesday while Burnsville is scheduled to play host to Bloomington Jefferson.
