Rosemount boys will return to state True Team meet
Rosemount will defend its Class 3A boys state True Team track and field championship May 19 at Stillwater High School.
The Irish won the Class 3A, Section 3 championship Wednesday at Apple Valley High School, scoring 850 points. Apple Valley was second with 808.5. Other Dakota County schools in the boys field included Eastview (fourth, 695.5) and Eagan (fifth, 624.5).
The section meet originally was scheduled for Tuesday but was pushed back one day because of bad weather.
Prior Lake won the girls section championship with 967 points. Rosemount (801.5), Eagan (783), Apple Valley (756), Eastview (724) and Burnsville (615) were second through sixth.
Rosemount’s boys and Prior Lake’s girls qualified for the state meet. Second-place finishers from each section will be in an on-paper “meet,” with one more boys and one more girls team advancing to state as wild cards. The wild-card teams are scheduled to be announced Saturday.
Field events for the state Class 3A meet begin at 4 p.m. May 19, with track events starting at 4:30.
Rosemount’s boys have been one of the most successful in the True Team format in recent years. In addition to their 2011 Class 3A championship, the Irish were runners-up in 2009 and 2010.
