Celebrate safely
To the editor:
This coming weekend brings much excitement as Lakeville schools celebrate prom. Prom is a memorable time for high school students and Lakeville North SAAD wants to keep it special by keeping everyone safe.
We would like to remind students, parents, and the community of the dangers of underage drinking, a topic that is especially relevant during the prom and graduation season.
The city of Lakeville has a Social Host Ordinance in order to protect our community. This means that any adult who knowingly organizes, supervises, or permits a gathering on public or private property where underage people consume or possess alcohol can be charged with a misdemeanor. The adult does not need to supply the alcohol or even be present at the event in order to be charged. The goal of this ordinance is to enforce safe celebrating, especially before, during, and after prom.
Our community can come together to stop the damage caused by underage drinking and unsafe partying before and after prom. Please keep our high school students safe this spring and always by not providing alcohol.
Together, we can keep prom and graduation season an exciting, special time, full of memories that will last a lifetime.
Thanks for supporting the safety of our students. You can help save lives.
