Religious freedom is at stake

To the editor:

I am so grateful to the writers of the most beautiful letters of May 4, who so eloquently expressed the importance of keeping religious beliefs out of our constitution.

Religious freedom is fundamental for the United States and to change/amend the constitution to “protect” the family, and keep marriage “between one man and one woman” is nothing less than pure discrimination.

To say that the main purpose of marriage is to conceive and raise children is just one more false, fear-based statement. There are over 10 million single mothers in America, raising children with no fathers, and no child support. This is a fact.

I agree, follow your faith, but please, keep it out of my government. I will vote no on the proposed marriage amendment, and hope that we have more than enough people that understand that this is nothing more than fear-based homophobia at its worst.
