Eastview, Eagan to play for section lacrosse title

Boys championship game is Friday in Farmington

Second-ranked Eastview and fourth-ranked Eagan will play for the Section 3 boys lacrosse championship at 7 p.m. Friday at Farmington High School.

In semifinal action Wednesday night, Eastview (13-1) defeated Lakeville North 9-5, avenging a regular-season loss to the Panthers. Eagan (13-2) routed Rosemount 15-4 in the other semifinal.

Friday’s winner will go to the state tournament June 5-8 at Farmington High School. The Minnesota State High School League is expected to announce seedings and game times Saturday.

Ryan McNamara scored four goals in Eastview’s victory over Lakeville North on Wednesday. Jacob Heppner and Shane Kenealey scored twice each, and Heppner had a team-high six ground-ball recoveries. Andrew Koenen made 13 saves in goal.

After trailing Rosemount 1-0 after the first quarter of its section semifinal game, Eagan took control with six second-period goals. Connor Simpson (four goals, one assist) and Dan Bausman (one goal, four assists) each had a five-point night for the Wildcats. Cullen Willox had three goals and one assist, and Mike Kukulski and Scott Pescheret scored twice each. Eagan goalie Lucas Petersen made 13 saves.

Carter Yepsen scored twice to lead sixth-ranked Rosemount (12-4).

Eastview is seeking its fourth trip to the state tournament since the Minnesota State High School League took over sponsorship in 2007. The Lightning qualified for state three years in a row from 2007-09, and was state runner-up in 2009. Eagan finished third in the 2010 state tourney.
