Dumb Criminal of the Week: Speeding southward… to Minneapolis?

By Lakeville Police Chief Tom Vonhof

Officer Adam Stier was on patrol late one night this week when he clocked a vehicle on his squad radar going 100 mph on I-35 near the intersection with 195th Street.

Stier stopped the vehicle and found that the driver had a revoked driver’s license and there was no insurance on the car. The driver told Stier that he was taking one of his passengers to Minneapolis to go to the hospital. Stier asked the passenger if he needed medical attention and the passenger said that he did not.

The driver’s story did not really check out: The speeding vehicle was heading southbound on the interstate (away from Minneapolis) when Stier stopped it. Stier issued the driver citations for the various traffic violations.

This originally appeared in Vonhof’s “Breezes” newsletter.
