Rosemount City Council race has six candidates; Matt Kearney does not file
The city of Rosemount will have a primary Aug. 14 after more than four candidates have filed to fill two, four-year terms on the Rosemount City Council.
At the filing deadline at 5 p.m. today, six people have entered the race.
Those who have filed are: Vanessa Olson Demuth and Wade Miller, both current Rosemount Planning Commission members, and Joseph P. Zanmiller, a current Minnesota Valley Transit Authority board member; Joe Kurle, who has worked in the home building industry; Maila C. Ellefson and current Council Member Jeff Weisensel.
The terms of council members Matt Kearney and Weisensel expire at the end of the year. Kearney, who was selected to fill former council member Kurt Bills’s term two years ago, did not file.
After the primary will whittle the field to four, the seats will be won by the top two vote-getters in the general election Nov. 6.
