Winner and new champion

Eastview won the Class AAA state baseball championship, and did it in a hurry.

In a game that lasted about 1 hour, 15 minutes, the Lightning defeated Bemidji 1-0 for the title Monday night at Target Field.

Evan DeCovich pitched a two-hit shutout, walking one and striking out five, and closed his senior season allowing only one run in his final 41 2/3 innings. DeCovich also doubled in the second inning and the courtesy runner sent in for him, E.J. Stevens, scored the game’s only run on an A.J. Stockwell groundout.

Eastview (22-5) won the second boys state championship in school history; the first was in  lacrosse earlier this month.

More coverage will appear on sunthisweek.com and in Friday’s Sun Thisweek print edition.
