Blue Cross program turns good health into cash

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota has become the first plan in Minnesota to offer individual products with a built-in financial incentive for achieving good health. The “Healthy Incentives” program, available through Blue Cross individual plans, offers a $100 annual credit for meeting four basic health goals:

• Body mass index (BMI) of 25 or less

• Low-density lipoprotein (“bad cholesterol”) level at or below 130 mmol/L

• Blood pressure less than or equal to 120/80

• No tobacco use

Members with Blue Cross’ Personal Blue or Healthy Blue coverage simply need to show how they meet these health measures. If the member achieves all four goals, they receive a $100 credit.

Healthy Incentives is available now for all new Personal Blue members and their spouses and will be available July 1 with the new Healthy Blue plan for individuals.
