Rosemount was stopped short of returning to the state girls tennis tournament when the Irish lost to Prior Lake 7-0 in the Section 3AA final Thursday at Life Time Fitness in Lakeville.

Prior Lake, the South Suburban Conference champion, won all seven matches in straight sets. Rosemount finished 13-5-1 overall.

The Irish, who finished fourth in last year’s state Class AA tournament, defeated Park of Cottage Grove 7-0, Henry Sibley 6-1 and Eastview 4-3 in the first three rounds of the section team competition.

The Section 3AA individual tournament started Friday, also at Life Time Fitness. Eagan’s Danielle Donahue and Rosemount’s Virginia Norder are the top two seeds in the singles competition. Eastview’s Mariah LaVold and Taylor Kopfer are seeded second in the doubles tournament.

Section individual competition is scheduled to conclude Tuesday. Two singles players and two doubles teams will qualify for the state tournament Oct. 25-26 at the University of Minnesota’s Baseline Tennis Center.
