Residents can apply for vacancy on District 191 School Board

Beginning April 1, residents can apply for a vacancy on the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 Board of Education created by the recent resignation of Paula Teiken.

Applications will be accepted until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30. Apply online at Paper applications are also available at the district’s Administrative Services Center, 100 River Ridge Court, Burnsville, or by calling (952) 707-2005.

Candidates must be at least 21 years of age, have been a resident of the school district for at least 30 days, and not have been convicted of an offense for which registration is required under MN Stat. Section 243.166.

At a public work session on May 2, the Board of Education will interview all eligible applicants. Then at their regular business meeting on May 16, board members will determine an appointee by a simple majority vote. The new board member will be sworn in during the board meeting on June 6 and will serve until December 2014.

The time commitment to serve on the board is 20 to 40 hours a month. Business meetings take place twice a month and there are also special meetings, work sessions, committee meetings, trainings and seminars. Board members receive $500 per month.

Others now serving on the seven-member board are DeeDee Currier, Ron Hill, Dan Luth, Jim Schmid, Sandy Sweep and Robert VandenBoom.
