Eagan youth wins national music award

Matthew Van Risseghem of Eagan has earned the Grand Cup from the National Federation of Music Clubs. The award recognizes his achievement of 78 points earned for quality performances in piano solo and piano concerto performance events. He is the only student in Minnesota to receive the Grand Cup award in 2013.

Van Risseghem has studied piano with Jill Robinson Kilzer, of Apple Valley, for 13 years.

In addition to participating in federation-sponsored festivals annually, he has participated in a variety of Minnesota Music Teachers Association programs including theory exams, keyboard skills exams and MMTA contest. Van Risseghem qualified as a winner in the MMTA Piano Contest three times and played in the MMTA Honors Concert in recognition of his performing ability.

He is a June graduate of Eagan High School and will attend the University of Minnesota-Duluth this fall.
