Burnsville police were still seeking information Monday on the unknown shooter who killed a man early Sunday outside Nina’s Grill, 2510 Horizon Drive.
A closing-time altercation between two patrons in the parking lot of the northeast Burnsville bar and grill led to the shooting, according to police Sgt. Rory Bochniak. Police responded at 1:58 a.m.
Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect, said Bochniak, who described the shooting scene as chaotic.
“It’s the end of bar closing and a lot of people milling around,” he said. “The next thing you know you’ve got shots fired and lots of people running for cover. We’re fortunate nobody else was injured or shot.”
An extensive search failed to locate a suspect. The search was aided by the State Patrol, Eagan and Lakeville police and the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department.
Police had yet to release the victim’s name or age as of 3 p.m. Monday.
This is the second unsolved gun homicide in Burnsville in recent weeks. One man was killed and another injured in a shooting at around 2 a.m. Aug. 13 on the 2100 block of E. 117th St., also in northeast Burnsville.
“It’s unfortunate we’ve had two in a row at this time,” said Bochniak, who called the cases unrelated. “The investigations unit has definitely been taxed in terms of investigating two different homicides.”
