Eagan is top seed in state volleyball

Moorhead is Wildcats’ first opponent

Eagan is the No. 1 seed at the state Class 3A volleyball tournament and will play Moorhead in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. Thursday at Xcel Energy Center.

The Wildcats are 27-2 after their four-set victory over defending state champion Lakeville North in the Section 3 championship match Saturday night. Moorhead, the Section 8 champion, is 18-11. The winner will play fourth-seeded Eden Prairie or fifth-seeded Roseville in the semifinals at 9 a.m. Friday. The Class 3A championship match is 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.

Osseo (No. 2) and Delano (No. 3) are the top seeds in the other half of the Class 3A bracket.

Eagan, which moved to No. 1 in the state rankings at the end of the regular season, is in the state tournament for the 10th time overall and the first time since 2006. The Wildcats won state championships in 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001 and 2003.
