Rosemount, Eastview renew rivalry in football playoffs

Lakeville North, Apple Valley to play top-ranked teams

South Suburban Conference rivals Rosemount and Eastview will meet for the second time this season when they play a Class 6A football quarterfinal game at 5 p.m. Thursday at TCF Bank Stadium.

Lakeville North also advanced to the final eight in Class 6A and will play Eden Prairie in a rematch of last year’s Prep Bowl participants at 5 p.m. Friday at the Metrodome.

Apple Valley reached the Class 5A quarterfinals and will play Owatonna at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakeville North High School.

Rosemount (9-1) received the No. 3 seed in the Class 6A quarterfinals behind undefeated teams Eden Prairie and Maple Grove. Eastview (6-4) is unseeded and was matched against the Irish via random draw.

The Irish routed Mounds View 42-7 in a second-round playoff game Nov. 1. Eastview went on the road to East Ridge, which had been ranked No. 3 in Class 6A by the Associated Press, and won 38-3 in a game that was tied 3-3 in the third quarter.

South Suburban Conference champion Rosemount defeated Eastview 24-0 in the second week of the regular season, which was the first of three consecutive losses for the Lightning. Eastview was 1-3 at one point but since has won five out of six.

The Rosemount-Eastview winner will play Maple Grove or Roseville in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Metrodome.

Lakeville North (8-2), unseeded in the Class 6A quarterfinals, edged Cretin-Derham Hall 14-12 in a second-round game Nov. 1, while Eden Prairie (10-0) beat Centennial 49-11. Eden Prairie finished the season at No. 1 in the Associated Press Class 6A rankings.

Eden Prairie defeated Lakeville North 28-7 in the 2012 Class 6A championship game, scoring one touchdown in each quarter and gaining 309 yards rushing.

The Lakeville North-Eden Prairie winner plays Osseo or Totino-Grace in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Metrodome

Apple Valley is in the Class 5A quarterfinals for the second consecutive year after shutting out Minneapolis Washburn 28-0 in the Section 3 championship game Nov. 1

After three consecutive victories in the Section 3 playoffs the Eagles (6-5) are above .500 for the first time this season. Owatonna (10-0), which is ranked first in Class 5A, defeated Rochester Mayo 42-0 in the Section 1 championship game.

The Apple Valley-Owatonna winner plays St. Michael-Albertville or Sartell-St. Stephen in a Class 5A semifinal game at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Metrodome.
