Lakeville police chief semifinalists named, all from Minnesota

No candidates are current members of the Lakeville police force

lv-police-Five men have been named semifinalists for the position of Lakeville police chief.

The candidates are: Nathan R. Gove, commander of the Golden Valley Police Department; Edina police Chief Jeffrey R. Long; Brian P. Peters, commander with the Brooklyn Center Police Department; MItchell P. Weinzetl, Buffalo police chief; and David P. Zimmer, a captain with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Department.

Lakeville City Administrator Steve Mielke and City Council members will interview the candidates Saturday, Nov. 16, to narrow the field to two or three finalists, Mielke said in a Nov. 8 news release.

Those finalists will undergo additional testing and interviews, and Mielke said he hopes to have a final decision by early next month.

At least two members of the Lakeville police force had applied for the position and were among the top nine candidates, according to Mielke, and at least one applicant was a female.

Lakeville police Sgt. John Kornmann was named to lead the department following former Lakeville police Chief Tom Vonhof’sĀ  Sept. 30 retirement. The department was informed that the person serving as interim was barred from applying for the chief position to avoid any perception of unfair advantage.
