Lakeville police recovered a stolen vehicle and seized a bag of marijuana in a traffic stop Dec. 21 near Dodd Boulevard and 194th Street.
Patrol officers stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver and sole occupant, 37-year-old David J. Monchamp of Farmington, after a license plate check indicated the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Monchamp told police the car had been given to him by another man; Monchamp said he was aware the man had stolen the car from “a lady” when she went to a gas station about five days prior, according to the criminal complaint.
A search of the vehicle turned up a stolen iPod and a bag of marijuana, the complaint said. Monchamp told police that the marijuana was “good buds” but denied that it was his.
Monchamp has been charged with felony motor vehicle theft; if convicted, he faces up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Following his arrest he was booked into the Dakota County Jail in Hastings, where he remained as of Friday morning with bail set at $100,000.
