South Suburban Conference and Section 1 champion Lakeville North is the No. 2 seed in the state Class AA boys hockey tournament.
That means the Panthers (23-4-1) will play the first quarterfinal game at 11 a.m. Thursday against Section 8 champion Roseau (20-7-1) at Xcel Energy Center. No. 3 seed Eden Prairie (17-8-3) plays Centennial (16-10-2) at 1 p.m., with the winner facing Lakeville North or Roseau in the semifinals at 6 p.m. Friday.
Defending state champion Edina (22-4-1) is the No. 1 seed and will play Stillwater (16-10-2) in a quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Eagan (18-9-1) received the fifth seed and will play fourth-seeded Duluth East (21-6-1) at 8 p.m. The winner plays Edina or Stillwater in the second quarterfinal game Friday night.
Lakeville North is in the state tournament for the third consecutive year but is a seeded team for the first time. The Panthers defeated Farmington 6-0 in the Section 1AA championship game Feb. 27. Angelo Altavilla and Tristen Hazlett scored two goals each for North, which outshot Farmington 23-5 in the second period and scored four times.
Farmington, which took an 18-game winning streak and 19-game unbeaten streak into the Section 1AA final, finished 23-4-1.
Lakeville North is 21-1-1 in its last 23 games. The Panthers have played three of the other Class AA tournament qualifiers this season and went 4-0 against them. They defeated Eden Prairie 7-0 and Duluth East 3-2 in overtime in non-conference games. They also swept Eagan 6-3 and 4-3 in two South Suburban games.
