Rosemount draws top seed in state boys lacrosse

Unbeaten AV seeded 3rd in girls tourney

Rosemount is the No. 1 boys seed for the state high school lacrosse tournaments that begin Tuesday at Chaska and Chanhassen high schools.

Lakeville North drew the fifth seed in the boys tournament.

Apple Valley, the only undefeated team in the girls tournament, received a No. 3 seed. Lakeville South, the other South Suburban Conference team in the tournament, is the fourth seed.

Rosemount’s boys (14-1), also No. 1 in the state rankings, will play Mahtomedi (9-6) in a state quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chaska. The Irish defeated No. 2-ranked Prior Lake 11-10 in the Section 3 championship game Thursday night at Burnsville High School.

Rosemount midfielder Carter Yepsen scored the winning goal with 13 seconds remaining in the section championship game. It was his fourth goal of the game. Conner Yepsen and Luke VanOverbeke scored twice each, and Mason Hille had a goal and four assists.

Rosemount played Mahtomedi on April 19 in a regular-season game, winning 16-6.

Section 1 champion Lakeville North will play fourth-seeded Blake at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Chaska, with the winner facing Rosemount or Mahtomedi in the semifinals at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Chanhassen.

Apple Valley (16-0) was seeded behind defending state champion Blake (14-2) and perennial state power Eden Prairie (14-2).

The Eagles’ state tournament opener is 1 p.m. Tuesday against Robbinsdale Armstrong (14-2) at Chanhassen. The winner advances to the semifinals against Eden Prairie or Champlin Park at 5 p.m. June 12 at Chaska.

The Eagles trailed Burnsville by five goals in the first half of the Section 3 final Thursday before rallying to win 12-9. Katie Larson and Reagan Roelofs each scored four goals and Blayr Thompson had three goals and two assists.

Burnsville, the defending Section 3 champion, finished 12-4. Lindsey Coleman scored three goals and Briita Nelson had two for the Blaze.

Lakeville South plays No. 5 seed Stillwater in the quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Chanhassen, with the winner meeting Blake or Maple Grove in the semifinals at 7 p.m. June 12 at Chaska.

State championship games will be Saturday, June 14, at Chanhassen High with the girls at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7.
