Meals On Wheels making a comeback

To the editor:

Meals On Wheels of Northwest Dakota County would like to thank our communities for all their recent support. After being the subject of an awesome story by Burnsville editor John Gessner, we have received an outpouring of support from our neighbors. Our program was facing the distinct possibility that we would need to close our doors in July due to a lack of funds. With John’s help in getting out our message, we received more financial support than we thought was possible. We will be able to stay open for many more years.

We want to thank Faith Covenant Church for their rent reductions for us. We had an anonymous donor give us a wonderfully huge donation – if you are reading this, many, many thanks! Many churches and individuals sent us donations. We received a few donations that came with matching corporate donations. We received foundation monies. The list is really quite long!

We have been very blessed to see how much our communities believe in what we do and want to help us. We are committed to making sure home-bound seniors and others receive a hot meal on a daily basis.

To all our drivers and kitchen volunteers – thank you for all you do. You are often the faces of our program. You are the people who make sure our clients get a hot meal and a smiling face every day. You go above and beyond. Rain? Snow? They don’t stop you. You people are wonderful stewards of community service. We could not do what we do without each one of you.

Interested in driving or helping out in the kitchen? Call us at 952-393-9860 and let us know.

Thank you again for recognizing the value of our program.
