Mogensen wins Farmington football Ironman event

Senior linebacker Brock Mogensen won the all-around competition and tied the tire flip record during the Farmington High School football team’s annual Ironman competition last Friday, which closes the Tigers’ summer practice schedule.

Mogensen flipped a 185-pound tire 38 times in 60 seconds, tying the Tigers’ Ironman record. He also won the “clean max” lift with a top of 318 pounds. Mogensen scored 5,047 points in seven events and was the only player scoring more than 5,000. Avery Filipek, a senior, was second overall with 4,961 points. Adam Weed was the top junior with 4,767 points and finished third overall. Mac Kukowski led the sophomores with 3,799.

Other individual event winners were Luke Kreisel in the back squat (497 pounds) and bench press (311 pounds), Justin Gutsalyuk in the 40-yard dash (4.64 seconds), Adam Weed in the L-drill (7.0 seconds) and Alijah Moe in the vertical jump (35 inches).

Sixty players participated in the Ironman competition. “Overall, it went very well,” said Scott Meier, Farmington’s strength and conditioning coach. “Our speed looks great and I’m very happy with our clean maxes and back squat maxes as a team.”

High school football teams will reconvene for two-a-day practices starting Monday, Aug. 14. Farmington’s season opener is at Woodbury on Friday, Sept. 1.
