New District 196 brand symbolizes infinite possibilities for students

The Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District 196 launched a new website, newsletter design and logo this month as part of a new brand identity the district is rolling out for the start of the 2017-18 school year.

Communications Director Tony Taschner said the goals of the rebranding effort are to further unite the district’s 33 outstanding school communities and strengthen its already excellent reputation for providing high-quality educational opportunities for students. He said the new brand will also establish greater consistency in look and language across the district and differentiate District 196 from its competitors.

The new logo and tagline – “One District. Infinite Possibilities” – were developed by Peter Hill Design Inc. of Minneapolis. The logo and tagline were selected based on research and input from a variety of district stakeholders, including staff, students and parents who were surveyed last school year.

The new logo features three interconnected infinity symbols – one red, one blue and one yellow – that are circled by the words “Academics • Arts • Athletics” to symbolize District 196’s long-standing commitment to the triple-A philosophy of providing students a wide variety of opportunities in all three areas. The infinity symbols also represent the three largest communities served by District 196 – Rosemount, Apple Valley and Eagan – as well as the elementary, middle school and high school levels of education.

“At District 196, the sky’s the limit,” Superintendent Jane K. Berenz said. “That’s because our committed team of educators is dedicated to helping learners explore the outer limits of their vast potential. We are nationally recognized for providing boundless opportunities in which students can learn and grow. Whether they have an affinity for academics, arts and/or athletics, our goal is to expose students to the infinite possibilities within the district and throughout our communities. Together, we encourage them each day to pursue excellence as they experience their exciting journey along the road of life.”

The district’s quarterly Spotlight newsletter and website were also redesigned to reflect the new brand image. Enhanced user features at include a mobile-responsive layout and quick access to the information parents use the most. School websites are also being redesigned to include consistent navigation that will make it easier for parents to find information as their children move from one school to the next.
