Burnsville High School vocal music teacher Erik Akervik was arrested Monday in connection with alleged inappropriate communication with a student, Burnsville police Sgt. Matt Smith said Tuesday.
Akervik had had communications with the student over the past several weeks that contained sexually explicit material, Smith said.
Akervik was arrested without incident after a school resource officer was told of the communications, Smith said.
He was being held without bail in the Dakota County Jail Tuesday on suspicion of distributing sexual material that relates or describes sexual conduct with a child, according to the jail’s website.
The “reported allegations” are “very upsetting,” Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 191 said in a statement. The district received a complaint on Akervik on Saturday, April 8, and “immediately began an investigation,” the district said. “We contacted the local law authorities and are now cooperating with their criminal investigation.”
